Prospective Faculty

The Department of Artificial Intelligence at IIT Hyderabad invites applications from exceptional individuals with outstanding academic credentials and research expertise in any field of AI. We seek candidates with a PhD in AI or related fields, a strong academic background, and an outstanding publication record. As India’s first dedicated AI department offering a BTech in AI, we are committed to building a world-class faculty community.

Qualifications and Requirements

IIT Hyderabad invites applications from Indian nationals, PIOs, OCIs, and Foreign Nationals for Assistant Professor (Grade-I & II), Associate Professor, and Professor positions. We encourage applications from exceptionally bright candidates with an established record of high-quality research and commitment to teaching. Female candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.

• Latest CV: Include contact details of at least 3 referees, student guidance details, sponsored projects, and post-PhD research experience.
• List of Publications: Include DOI links. Providing Scopus/Google Scholar links, impact factors, core rankings, and citations is highly encouraged.
• Teaching Statement: Highlight proposed new courses and existing UG/PG courses you can teach.
• Research Statement: Outline immediate and long-term research goals.
• Selected Papers: Copies of 3 recent publications where you are a key contributor.

Application and Selection Process

Submit your application package online via the Application Portal. You can also join our mailing list to receive updates on new positions.

The selection process comprises two stages: a department-level research presentation, followed by a teaching demonstration, a research seminar, and an interview with the Director.

Round 1: Department Presentation

Shortlisted candidates will deliver a 45–60 minute research presentation covering a recent work in detail, their original contributions, and future research directions. You should also discuss plans for securing research funding. Evaluation focuses on clarity, alignment with department objectives, relevance to modern AI/ML, and your preparedness to mentor students.

Round 2: Teaching, Seminar & Interview

Teaching Demonstration: A 30-minute lecture on a topic of your choice at a second-year undergraduate level. Assesses teaching clarity, foundational understanding, and interaction with students.

Research Presentation: A 45–60 minute seminar building on Round 1, with a specific focus on teaching interests. Candidates must specify courses they can teach or develop. Evaluates research depth, justification of research questions, and funding plans.

Director Interview: An in-person interview with the Director, HoD, and selection committee. Candidates are encouraged to be open about their interest in joining and any parallel offers, as this transparency helps align mutual goals.
