The decisions for the Special PhD High CGPA Program have been finalised. One candidate (app. no. 80562) has been issued a provisional offer, and three candidates (app. nos. 80408, 80524, 80400) have been placed on the waitlist.
Offers have been made to the selected candidates under the MTech TA2 [IIT Grads] mode over the email.
Offers for the MTech SS and RA candidates will be made before this weekend.

Applications for PhD admissions will be scrutinized for the various eligibility criteria, and shortlisted applicants will be called for written test on 14 May 2026. All shortlisted candidates will receive an email intimation on May 07, 2026.
The syllabus for the MTech TA2/RA/SS written test (a combination of MCQs and brief descriptions) is the following: Mathematical foundations (Linear Algebra, Probability, Calculus, Discrete Maths, etc.), programming/algorithmic basics, general AIML knowledge, and logical reasoning.
You are advised to carry the following documents for MTech TA2/RA/SS written test:
The written test for MTech TA2/RA/SS shortlisted candidates will be held on 7th May from 11 AM – 12.30 PM. The shortlisted candidates must report at the Lecture Hall Complex: TA2 candidates in LHC-1, RA candidates in LHC-2 or LHC-3, and SS candidates in LHC-5 at 10.30 AM on that day.
The shortlisting process for all modes of PhD admission will be completed latest by 6th May at the latest.

Written exam(Offline mode) is scheduled for M.Tech (RA and SS programs) on Thursday, 7th May 2026, and the interviews are in online mode, the interview dates are May 11-13, 2026.

The Department of Artificial Intelligence at IIT Hyderabad celebrates five years of India's first B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence program. Launched in 2019, the program was also the third in the world to offer a dedicated undergraduate degree in AI, after MIT and Carnegie Mellon University.
The department has grown to include over 30 affiliated faculty members and has produced hundreds of graduates working at leading technology companies and research institutions worldwide.

IIT Hyderabad has established the Centre for Research and Innovation in AI, known as क्रिया (KRIYA), to provide dedicated research infrastructure for AI research at the institute.
The centre supports research across machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, robotics, AI for healthcare, and other emerging AI disciplines. It provides access to high-performance computing resources, specialized labs, and collaborative spaces for faculty and students.

IIT Hyderabad announced the establishment of the Centre for Research and Innovation in AI, known as क्रिया (KRIYA). The centre serves as a dedicated hub for advancing foundational and applied AI research, bringing together faculty and students from multiple departments to work on cutting-edge problems in machine learning, computer vision, NLP, and AI for societal applications.
IIT Hyderabad launched a new interdisciplinary PhD program at the intersection of AI/ML and Information Theory. The program enables doctoral researchers to explore theoretical foundations of modern AI systems, drawing on expertise from the AI department and collaborating groups in mathematics and electrical engineering.

Faculty from the Department of AI at IIT Hyderabad contributed to national Covid-19 modelling initiatives, leveraging machine learning and data-driven epidemiological models to help forecast the pandemic's trajectory across India. The research supported public health decision-making during a critical period of the crisis.

A professor from IIT Hyderabad was honoured with the prestigious National Science Chair by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The award recognizes outstanding and sustained contributions to science and technology research, and is one of the highest distinctions offered by SERB to active researchers in India.
IIT Hyderabad signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Telangana on the occasion of the state declaring 2020 as the "Year of AI." The partnership aims to foster collaboration between the institute and the state government on AI-driven governance solutions, capacity building, and workforce development in artificial intelligence and related technologies.
